Walking links course · Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Bandon, Oregon

Pacific Dunes

Pacific Dunes is the course to prioritize if you want the purest combination of strategic links golf, dramatic dunes and firm, windy conditions at Bandon. Plan to walk, use a caddie, and play more than one round so you can learn its angles rather than simply survive it. A four-night, five-round trip

KNOW THE COURSE

What to know

THE COURSE

What makes Pacific Dunes special

Pacific Dunes is rugged, natural and strategic rather than polished or target-golf precise. Expect wide-looking corridors, deceptive greens, deep bunkers, native grasses and wind that changes the correct shot from one day to the next.

HOW TO PLAY

Think links golf, not aerial golf

Use the ground whenever possible: bump-and-runs, low runners and putts from off the green are often safer than high approaches. Aim for generous sides of greens, accept that some misses are intentional, and avoid forcing heroic shots over hazards or dunes.

  • Play for position off the tee rather than maximum distance
  • Favor the side of the fairway that opens the green
  • Use less loft around firm runoffs
  • Expect the wind to influence club selection and trajectory

PREPARE

Bring the right mindset and kit

The weather can be cool, breezy and changeable. Pack rain gear, warm layers, comfortable walking shoes, a lightweight carry option if desired, extra golf balls and a towel. Do not judge the course solely by your score; the first round is a learning lap.

WHAT ELSE TO PLAY

Build the trip around variety

Pair Pacific Dunes with Bandon Dunes for classic links character, Old Macdonald for strategic width, Sheep Ranch for the biggest coastal views, and Bandon Preserve for a relaxed short-course round.

  • Pacific Dunes — priority round
  • Bandon Dunes — classic companion course
  • Old Macdonald — wide, strategic and architectural
  • Sheep Ranch — spectacular coastal setting
  • Bandon Preserve — ideal warm-up or easy final round

WHERE TO STAY

Stay on property if you can

On-site lodging makes early tee times and multi-course days much easier. Options include The Lodge, The Inn, Lily Pond, Round Lake, Chrome Lake and Grove Cottages, with choices for solo golfers through larger groups.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

The ideal four-night golf trip

This schedule gives you a strong first look at Pacific Dunes without making every day feel like an endurance test.

  • Day 1: Arrive, settle in, practice and play Bandon Preserve
  • Day 2: Pacific Dunes in the morning; relaxed replay or short-game practice
  • Day 3: Bandon Dunes and evening dining at the resort
  • Day 4: Old Macdonald or Sheep Ranch; optional second Pacific Dunes round
  • Day 5: Final round, brunch and departure

AFTER GOLF

Keep the evenings easy

Use the resort restaurants and pubs rather than planning ambitious off-property travel after walking 18 holes. Reserve dinner when possible, and leave time for the Punchbowl putting course, a sauna or a massage.
