Adam Sandler

WHY GOLF MATTERS

Golf is his perfect comedy playground

Sandler has long used golf as a way to mix sportsmanship, absurdity and underdog storytelling. Happy Gilmore’s appeal comes from turning an unconventional athlete into someone who discovers a place in golf.

The game gives Sandler both a character world and a personal passion.

PLAYING JOURNEY

From hockey swing to real practice

The famous running drive began as part of Happy Gilmore’s fictional hockey background, but Sandler has also worked on making the swing look convincing on camera. Hunter Mahan served as his golf-swing double for Happy Gilmore 2, helping with the more demanding golf sequences.

His movie swing is stylized, but the production treated the golf seriously.

NOTABLE APPEARANCES

Happy Gilmore made golf part of pop culture

The 1996 film established Sandler as one of golf’s most recognizable entertainers. In 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 brought him back into the golf world with appearances by PGA Tour, LIV Golf and golf-legend figures.

• Happy Gilmore — 1996
• Happy Gilmore 2 — 2025
• The Adult Swim Golf Classic — comedy golf special
• Celebrity golf content with Bryson DeChambeau

His strongest golf footprint is entertainment rather than tournament competition.

PLAYING LEVEL

No verified handicap on record

A specific Adam Sandler handicap is not reliably documented by an official golf organization or a consistently sourced interview. Reports and videos show that he can produce a credible, powerful swing, but that is not enough to assign a handicap or claim a competitive playing level.

Treat online handicap numbers as unverified unless Sandler or an official source confirms them.

VERIFIED VIDEO

The best clips to watch

These verified video appearances show Sandler’s golf connection most clearly: a 2021 recreation of the Happy Gilmore swing and a later golf challenge with Bryson DeChambeau connected to the sequel’s promotion.

The 2021 swing recreation is the clearest standalone look at Sandler actually hitting a golf ball.

HH READ

The real appeal

Sandler’s relationship with golf feels less like celebrity branding and more like a long-running friendship with the sport. He enjoys golf’s rituals, rivalries and visual comedy—and he clearly appreciates the professionals who help make the joke look authentic.

Golf is both a creative language and a game he genuinely enjoys.
