THE STORY
What to know
PLAYING LEVEL
Reported handicap: 2
Sky Sport reported in September 2013 that Shevchenko played off a 2 handicap before his Kharkov Superior Cup appearance. That is a strong single-digit level, but I could not verify a current handicap index from an official handicap record.
COMPETITION
Professional-tournament debut
Shevchenko entered the 2013 Kharkov Superior Cup, a Challenge Tour event in Ukraine. His participation was notable because it placed a former football star into a genuine professional golf tournament environment, although no meaningful finish is widely documented.

ON-COURSE EVIDENCE
Enough speed to drive a par 4
At the 2023 Ryder Cup All-Star Match, Shevchenko drove the par-4 16th hole at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. It is a strong visual indicator of athletic speed and confidence off the tee, though one highlight cannot measure his complete scoring game.

Shevchenko began playing in Italy and has described golf as a serious, demanding activity that rewards concentration throughout a full round. Reports from Ukrainian golf figures have portrayed him as one of the country’s strongest amateurs, though that assessment is not an independently audited ranking.

Why this profile is worth exploring
Treat the handicap 2 as a credible historical snapshot, not a current fact. The safest conclusion is that Shevchenko is a genuinely accomplished, athletic amateur with notable power and tournament experience.
